From Seasonal Stop to Year-Round Destination: Urban Tractor Farm Winery
Urban Tractor Farm Winery has been part of the Fair Finance Fund client community since 2023, and we're excited to welcome them back — this time to help finish something they've been building toward for years.
The family behind Urban Tractor Farm Winery is converting their seasonal winery on the Niagara Benchlands into a year-round retail and production destination. A loan from Fair Finance Fund is helping close out the capital need for the final stretch: framing, exterior finishes, HVAC, interior build-out, and a constructed wetland and septic system doing double duty as infrastructure and habitat. This next chapter matters for four reasons.
It lets a strong business operate at full capacity. Urban Tractor sits on a high-traffic corridor through the Niagara Benchlands — Niagara wine tourists, GTA day-trippers, cyclists, motorcycle travelers, and corporate and private event clients all pass by. Once the conversion is complete, Urban Tractor gets to operate as the year-round destination it was always capable of being.
It grows production without sacrificing the ecosystem. Minimal tillage protects soil health. Integrated pest management keeps pesticide use low and builds real habitat for wildlife among the vines. Winery waste never leaves the property: high-pressure heated spray cleaning cuts water use, and the constructed wetland treats effluent on-site while sheltering species at risk. Five times the production, five years from now, without the ecological cost climbing alongside it.
It strengthens a business model built on more than bottle sales. Urban Tractor was deliberately structured around tastings, craft classes, and events together, not wine sales alone — an experience-driven approach that sets it apart from wineries selling wine and nothing else. Year-round operations mean that the model finally runs at full strength.
It lifts up a whole regional economy, not just one winery. Most visitors to Urban Tractor also stop at another winery, a local restaurant, or a place to stay the night. The build-out itself is using local contractors and suppliers wherever possible. Every case of wine that Urban Tractor sells is doing quiet work for the businesses around it, too.
Urban Tractor Farm Winery had the plan, the practices, and the market. What they needed was the last piece of capital to finish the building — and we're proud to be helping them get there! Urban Tractor Farm Winery continues to invite the community to partake in the fruits of their labour and enjoy their unique, delicious wines. Through this expansion, they aim to deepen their impact on both the local economy and the environment, fostering a vibrant, sustainable future for their farm and community.
